Laura's Story

My photo
In November 2011 a very loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, family member and a very dear friend to many people treated herself to a well deserved body massage. During this massage she learned that she had a spot on her upper shoulder blade that had her massage therapist alarmed. The therapist encouraged Laura to make herself an appointment with a doctor to have it evaluated. Without hesitation Laura went to the doctor and through many tests, it came back she had developed melanoma. In the past few weeks she has undergone some very intense and painful surgery to have not only the spot removed from her back but also the lymph nodes in her neck. Laura is a very strong, loving and caring woman of God. I visited her over Christmas and she asked only that people be aware of their own body and health. Having a second set of eyes in November prevented this cancer from spreading any further. WE BELIVE in the power of prayer and the strength of Laura's determination to pave this one forward! A benefit account has been set up at JP Chase Bank to help cover the costs of treatments, unexpected medical costs and/or other expenses needed while she is recovering.

She is HUMBLED!!

Laura would like to thank all of the people who were involved in putting together a wonderful benefit celebration this past Sunday.  She is very humbled and appreciates all of you who participated in the silent auction and enjoyed the fellowship of all her friends and family!  It was a great success and she is very thankful to each and every person who has donated money, gifts, time of prayer and compassion for her and her family.

She was given the green light last week to begin her chemotherapy treatment.  Mike and Laura left Fruita yesterday (Feb 27, 2012), for Tuscon, Arizona.  They have arrived safely and she will be visiting with the doctors at the University of Arizona today (Feb 28, 2012), for her upcoming treatment schedule.

Many of you have asked how she is doing.  She is truly a BELIEVER and is going to BEAT this with the grace of God, her wonderful support team of family, friends, and the best medical team possible.  Her choice in coming to Arizona for treatment is something she thought and prayed about in quite depth.  As a mother she was faced with the decision of leaving behind her family in Fruita while she is going through her treatments in Tuscon.  The length of time she could be away from her home will depend on the success of her treatment and could be as short as a few months to a year.

She is very nervous for today's appointment but ready to start the next step of treatment.  Please take a minute and put her in your prayers and add her name to your prayer chains.  Her faith is very strong and she is such a BELIEVER, so please lift her up in prayer.  As more information becomes available the blog will be updated.

Donations are still being excepted through this blog. Every penny counts and is very much appreciated!  Thank you and God bless each and everyone of you!
