First of all I would like to thank Trisha for starting the blog for me, she's an amazing friend and is a blessing to me. Next, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, kind words, and donations. During these scary times I have been humbled by all the support sent my way. About a month ago people gathered for a fund raiser for me at the End Zone in Fruita, I was in awe of all the people that showed up on my behalf, it was incredible. Thanks everyone for all your support and help with the fundraiser.
As some of you may or may not know I did not qualify for the treatments that I traveled to Tucson for. I will not be taking the chemotherapy which was the oncologists plan B, as it is not proven to prolong my life. At this time we have decided to wait on treatment until my stage of cancer is included in the trial, so until then I will be traveling to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale every three months for a series of tests that will look for any sign of spreading cancer.Although I am very scared for what lies ahead, I am counting my blessings.
I just ask that everyone continue to keep me in your prayers and don't be afraid to ask me how I am doing. I will try to keep the blog updated as much as I can.

Laura's Story
- 'BELIEVE"
- In November 2011 a very loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, family member and a very dear friend to many people treated herself to a well deserved body massage. During this massage she learned that she had a spot on her upper shoulder blade that had her massage therapist alarmed. The therapist encouraged Laura to make herself an appointment with a doctor to have it evaluated. Without hesitation Laura went to the doctor and through many tests, it came back she had developed melanoma. In the past few weeks she has undergone some very intense and painful surgery to have not only the spot removed from her back but also the lymph nodes in her neck. Laura is a very strong, loving and caring woman of God. I visited her over Christmas and she asked only that people be aware of their own body and health. Having a second set of eyes in November prevented this cancer from spreading any further. WE BELIVE in the power of prayer and the strength of Laura's determination to pave this one forward! A benefit account has been set up at JP Chase Bank to help cover the costs of treatments, unexpected medical costs and/or other expenses needed while she is recovering.

She is HUMBLED!!
Laura would like to thank all of the people who were involved in putting together a wonderful benefit celebration this past Sunday. She is very humbled and appreciates all of you who participated in the silent auction and enjoyed the fellowship of all her friends and family! It was a great success and she is very thankful to each and every person who has donated money, gifts, time of prayer and compassion for her and her family.
She was given the green light last week to begin her chemotherapy treatment. Mike and Laura left Fruita yesterday (Feb 27, 2012), for Tuscon, Arizona. They have arrived safely and she will be visiting with the doctors at the University of Arizona today (Feb 28, 2012), for her upcoming treatment schedule.
Many of you have asked how she is doing. She is truly a BELIEVER and is going to BEAT this with the grace of God, her wonderful support team of family, friends, and the best medical team possible. Her choice in coming to Arizona for treatment is something she thought and prayed about in quite depth. As a mother she was faced with the decision of leaving behind her family in Fruita while she is going through her treatments in Tuscon. The length of time she could be away from her home will depend on the success of her treatment and could be as short as a few months to a year.
She is very nervous for today's appointment but ready to start the next step of treatment. Please take a minute and put her in your prayers and add her name to your prayer chains. Her faith is very strong and she is such a BELIEVER, so please lift her up in prayer. As more information becomes available the blog will be updated.
Donations are still being excepted through this blog. Every penny counts and is very much appreciated! Thank you and God bless each and everyone of you!

When WE give, WE receive!!
Laura met with a very sincere and compassionate Melanoma Cancer Specialist in Scottsdale, Arizona this past week and has returned back home. She left there with many answered questions but also with some very difficult decisions to make on her upcoming treatment location. As she makes these decisions we will keep you followers updated and informed.
Her extended family at FHW’s Rehabilitation Therapy Center has organized a fund-raiser to help Laura with her battle. Your support is greatly appreciated!

She is COURAGEOUS!!
I spoke with Laura last night and she is a true inspiration! Her voice and spirits are a reflection of the beauty in her soul! She is very positive and determined!
I did want to clairfy one thing in the prior post about her treatments. She is going to Scottsdale next week, however, it is for a second opinion from a doctor who specializes in melanoma at the Mayo Clinic. After a series of tests she will know more on the future treatments.
Once again please keep her in your prayers and thank you for your contributions The Vogel family! They are forever thankful!
